Florence Freedom Wins Series Opener at Evansville

(EVANSVILLE, Indiana) The Florence Freedom started a three game weekend series at the Evansville Otters with a 9-2 victory on Saturday night.

There were 4,162 fans at Historic Bosse Field on Heritage Federal Credit Union night with an Evansville Otter hat giveaway and postgame fireworks as well.

dsa200sl276slmult1 Starting pitcher Bryce Morrow encourtered trouble early, allowing a run in the first inning, and putting Evansville down by a run.

Florence would then rally for four more runs in the second inning, including a two base fielding error to take a 5-0 lead.

Evansville then responded in the bottom of the second when first baseman Nick Schwaner roped a triple down the right field line. Nick then scored two batters later on an RBI groundout from DeAngelo Mack.

Evansville tacked on a run in the seventh when Schwaner scored on Mackrquote s RBI single to right field. It cut the lead down to three, but the Otters would leave the bases loaded to end the inning.

Florence reacted with four more unearned runs in the top of the eighth, winning the contest 9-2 at Bosse Field.

The Freedom have now won six games in a row, improving to 21-13. With the loss, the Otters are now 13-21.

Florence starter Maxx Catapano (3-1) receives the win, throwing 6.0 innings, allowing two runs on four hits. Morrow (2-3) also threw 6.0 innings, allowing five runs (three earned) in the loss.

The Florence Freedom and Evansville Otters will now continue their series on Sunday afternoon in a doubleheader at Bosse Field. First pitch is scheduled for 4:35 p.m. on New Image Travel Night.

Game one will feature Evansville left-hander Matt Zielinski (2-3, 4.61) against the Florence righty Sean Gregory (3-2, 3.19). Game two will start about a half hour after the first game ends. Evansville native Adam Champion (2-1, 4.00) starts for the Otters and right-hander Alec Lewis (2-3, 2.81) will pitch for Florence. Both games are scheduled for seven innings.
