
Loggers Launch Two Home Runs to Defeat Honkers

(Rochester, Minn.) - The La Crosse Loggers took control of the game early with a five-run third inning to lead them past the Rochester Honkers 12-5 in the series finale on Sunday at Mayo Field. The Loggers were able to collect 13 hits and improve to 15-18 this season. The Honkers have lost eight of their last 10 and drop to 15-19.
Michael Michalak (Illinois) and Jaylon McLaughlin (Nevada) recorded multi-hit game for the Honkers offense. Michalak and McLaughlin went 2-for-4 and 2-for-3 respectively. Taylor Adams (Oregon), Logan Denholm (UC Davis), and Alex Baeza (Hawaii) all roped doubles for Rochester.
Honkers starting pitcher Darin Kilfoyl (Saint Johns River State) tossed just one inning due to reaching his pitch count, he surrendered three runs on two hits. Ryan Dorney (St. Martin's) took the loss in relief after working four innings and gave up seven runs on six hits. Matt Hardy (UC Riverside) tossed two innings and gave up two runs on three hits. Thomas Greely (San Joaquin Delta College) worked two scoreless innings while striking out one.
The Loggers gave themselves a 3-0 lead in the first as Bryce Blaum (Butler) and Korey Lee (California) each singled to bring home a run. Kyson Donahue (Arizona) drove in the third run of the inning on a ground out.
The Honkers cut the Loggers lead to 3-2 in the first as Michalak singled up the middle to bring home McLaughlin who walked to lead off the game. Hardy brought home a run on a fielder's choice to give him his sixth RBI of the year.
Harrison Freed (Butler) started the rally in the third for the Loggers with a two-run home run, good for his seventh of the year. Jarron Silva (UCLA) singled up the middle to bring home a run and push the score to 6-2. Braiden Ward (Washington) capped off the scoring in third with a two-RBI single to make the score 8-2.
The Loggers added to their lead in the fourth as Shane McGuire (San Diego) hit a two-run home run over the right field wall. McGuire came back in the sixth to give La Crosse an 11-2 lead on a RBI single. McGuire drove in his fourth run of the game in the seventh on another single.
The Honkers showed some fight rallying back for a three-run seventh, Andy Armstrong (Oregon State) drove in his first run of the year on a ground out. Michalak later doubled in two runs to cut the Loggers lead to 12-5.
Bill Chillari (Duke) tossed six innings without giving up an earned run to earn his first win of the year. Chillari struck out seven and gave up four hits.
The Honkers are off to Duluth to take on the Huskies on Monday at Wade Stadium. David Lemasters (Lake Erie) is scheduled to throw for the Honkers, Lemasters has been dominant this season posting a 4-0 record and a 1.10 ERA. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
