Wisconsin Rapids Rafters News Release
Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.-In their longest game of the year in terms of hours and minutes, the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters (5-17) dropped the finale of their homestand by a score of 9-4 to the La Crosse Loggers (14-8). The Loggers have won the first six matchups between the two teams and are now in first place in the South Division.
The Rafters could never get the bats going against Ryan Deemes (Nicholls State) as the righty went 6 innings while scattering 6 hits and allowing one unearned run. Deemes let his defense do the work for him as he struck out only two Rafters. Contributing in part to the length of the game, the Rafters pitching staff had a tough day on the mound, as five pitchers combined to walk 10 Loggers hitters.
The inaccuracy started with Wisconsin Rapids starter Jason Freeman (Texas A&M). Freeman would last 2 innings as his outing was cut short by the Northwoods League ' s rule of throwing more than 35 pitches in an inning. The righty gave up two runs (one earned) and walked four in his two innings of work.
La Crosse ' s offense did not need much help as they still banged out 11 hits en route to scoring 9 runs. Ryan Sluder (Oklahoma State) continued his hot start in a Rafters uniform as he picked up two more hits in the loss.
After a 3-4 home stand the Rafters hit the road for four games in the state of Michigan before taking on Green Bay for the first time this season on Sunday. First pitch tomorrow is at 6:05 pm CST.
