
Mallards Lean on Snead to Down Bombers

Madison, WI- June 18, 2014. The Madison Mallards (13-9) will look to build upon their 1-0 win last night against the Lakeshore Chinooks tonight versus the Battle Creek Bombers (10-12) at the "Duck Pond." First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm.
Kirby Snead (Florida) will toe the rubber for the Mallards against Bombers starter Austen Thrailkill (Embry Riddle). The southpaw Snead has appeared in relief for the Mallards in four games and is 1-0 on the year with a 2.34 ERA in 7.2 innings pitched. In his last appearance on June 13th, Snead tossed 2.1 innings in relief against the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters, giving up one run on one hit while striking out two.
The 6'4", 210-pound lefty Thrailkill has pitched 19.1 innings in four starts this season for the Bombers, letting up nine runs on 16 hits and 15 walks while striking out 13. His last start came on June 12th against the La Crosse Loggers, where he pitched 4.1 innings and gave up four runs on five hits in 7-5 win.
The Mallards sit one game behind first place in a bunched up South Division leader board with three teams tied at the top. Last night, the club put away the Lakeshore Chinooks (14-8) in a close one highlighted by superb defensive play and rock-solid pitching. Robbie Tenerowicz (California) went 2-for-3, driving in the only Mallards run on a single in the second inning and added a couple spectacular defensive plays at second base to help the Mallards to their 13th win.
AJ Bogucki (North Carolina) received the win after pitching five scoreless innings, giving up four hits while striking out four. Tim Black (Central Michigan) got his sixth save of the year and now is tied for the league lead after closing down the Bombers in the eighth and ninth.
The Mallards stay at the "Duck Pond" tomorrow to wrap up their two game series against the Bombers. First pitch is slated for 7:05 pm. Thursday night will feature a West Bend Bobblehead Giveaway of Mallards skipper Donnie Scott.
