Green Bay Rockers News Release

Green Bay, Wis. - After a four game road trip, the Green Bay Bullfrogs returned to Joannes Stadium on Wednesday for the start of another home-and-home series with the Wisconsin Woodchucks. The Woodchucks got a quality pitching performance from their starter, Robby Medel, and Wisconsin's bullpen closed out the game, as the Bullfrogs fell to the Woodchucks on Wednesday night by a score of 6-2.

The Bullfrogs plated the first run of the game in the bottom of the first inning. Johnny Bekakis (Long Beach State) played in his first game as a Bullfrog and recorded his first hit to lead things off in the first inning. Matt Beaty (Belmont) followed Bekakis with a single of his own. After Ryan Howell (Chabot) advanced Bekakis and Beaty on a groundout, Ryan Koziol (Gulf Coast State) came to the plate and scored Bekakis with a sacrifice fly to center field that gave the Bullfrogs an early 1-0 lead.

The Woodchucks would then tie the game in the third inning, before scoring two more runs in the fourth inning to take a 3-1 lead. Wisconsin scored their runs in the third inning on a Jake Jefferies (Cal State Fullerton) sacrifice fly and on an RBI double off the bat of C.J. Chatham (Florida Atlantic).

Wisconsin added another run in the sixth inning on a Jake Scudder (Iowa Western) solo home run to extend the Woodchucks lead to 4-2 after six innings.

Green Bay would get a run back in the bottom of the seventh inning to pull within two runs at 4-2. Brian Celsi (California), who also made his Bullfrogs debut on Wednesday, and Daniel Jackson (Long Beach State) led off the seventh inning with singles to chase Wisconsin's starting pitcher, Robby Medel (TCU) from the game.

Dane Hutcheon (Montevallo) then came to the plate and scored Celsi on an RBI-groundout to first base to score the Bullfrogs second and final run of the game.

Celsi finished the game 2-for-3, while both Bekakis and Beaty went 2-for-5 on the night for the Bullfrogs.

Medel officially threw six innings, giving up eight hits and two runs while earning the win for the Woodchucks.

Wisconsin would respond to the Bullfrogs run in the seventh inning by scoring insurance runs in the eighth and ninth inning. In the eighth inning, Jefferies scored on an error by the Bullfrogs and in the ninth inning Zach Arnold (Kentucky) scored on an RBI sacrifice fly from Nate Mondou (Wake Forest) to make the score 6-2 in favor of Wisconsin.

Max Ising (Creighton) came on to pitch the ninth inning for Wisconsin. Although he allowed the Bullfrogs to load the bases in the ninth, Ising got out of the jam without allowing a run to pick up the save.

Ethan Rosebeck (Pima CC) took the loss for the Bullfrogs on Wednesday, throwing four innings while allowing four hits and three runs to the Woodchucks.

The Bullfrogs and Woodchucks will play the second game of their home-and-home series on Thursday in Wausau, Wisconsin. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM from Athletic Park in Wausau.
