
Black Records Seventh Save as Mallards Move Past Bombers

Madison, WI- June 18, 2014. The Madison Mallards (14-9) won in another close game tonight at the "Duck Pond", this time against the Battle Creek Bombers (10-13) by a score of 3-2. Second baseman Robbie Tenerowicz (California) recorded his second RBI single in the past two games and first baseman Joe Dudek (North Carolina) added two RBI to help the Mallards to their 14th win.
The Mallards received scoreless pitching from starter Kirby Snead (Florida), and relievers Chris Oakley (North Carolina) and Andrew Buckley (California). Snead tossed three innings, giving up no hits and no walks while striking out four. Oakley was solid, giving up two hits while striking out two and Buckley had four strikeouts in just two innings of work.
Tenerowicz broke the score open in the sixth on a single to drive in center fielder Will Krug (Illinois) from third, and Dudek followed with a two RBI single to bring in designated hitter Pete Alonso (Florida) and Tenerowicz to make the score 3-0.
The Bombers brought it close in the 8th when Conor Panas (Canisius) hit a two run bomb to make the score 3-2, but Tim Black (Central Michigan) came on to retire one batter in the eighth and then finished off the side in the ninth. Black received his seventh save of the year and is now first among all Northwoods League pitchers in the save category.
Bombers starter Austen Thrailkill (Embry Riddle) went 5.2 innings, giving up three runs on three hits and four walks. He added six strikeouts but received the loss to move to 0-1 on the year.
The Mallards stay at the "Duck Pond" tomorrow to wrap up their two game series against the Bombers. First pitch is slated for 7:05 pm. Thursday night will feature a West Bend Bobblehead Giveaway of Mallards skipper Donnie Scott.
