Cedar Rapids Kernels News Release
Cedar Rapids, IA - The Cedar Rapids lineup tied their season-high in runs scored with a 13-2 demolition of the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Tuesday evening. Anthony Prato had four hits and finished a home run shy of the cycle, four different Kernels had multi-hit games, all nine starters reached base and eight of nine scored at least one run. The Kernels now stand at 27-13, two games up on both Wisconsin and South Bend in the West Division.
Cedar Rapids' offensive outburst came in support of a strong start by Aaron Rozek, who tossed 5.0 scoreless innings of three-hit, three-walk baseball while striking out a pair on his way to his fifth win of the season.
The Kernels got on the board first in the second inning as Kyler Fedko singled in Willie Joe Garry Jr., Will Holland singled then Anthony Prato laced a two-run triple all with two outs. Three more runs would score an inning later as Jair Camargo blasted a two-run homer to right and Fedko plated Garry Jr. with a sacrifice fly.
Up 6-0 through three, Prato led off the fourth with a single and scored on an Aaron Sabato RBI single. Camargo would roll an infield single up the third base line that drew a bouncing throw from the Timber Rattlers' pitcher, scoring Christian Encarnacion-Strand from second as he made a great read on the throw to make it 8-0.
With two away in the fifth, Prato drew a walk and came all the way around on an Encarnacion-Strand triple smoked into right-center. Sabato lined another RBI single to left; then Seth Gray, Camargo and Garry Jr. drew three straight walks with the latter plating the Kernels' 11th run of the game.
The final two Kernels runs came in the eighth on Encarnacion-Strand's eighth long ball of the season, a towering two-run shot out to left.
Game two of the series is set for 12:05 p.m. on Wednesday at Veterans Memorial Stadium with the Kernels' first home noon game since 2019.
