Lindback Shutout Gives Crunch 4-0 Win over Penguins

Syracuse, NY - The Syracuse Crunch topped the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins 4-0 on the strength of a shutout from goaltender Anders Lindback tonight at the War Memorial Arena.

The win boosts the Crunch's overall record to 21-23-4-5 on the season and 3-5-0-0 in the series against the Penguins. Defenseman Matt Taormina found the back of the net twice while Drew Olson and Tanner Richard also contributed a goal each. The Crunch penalty kill was perfect, stopping four Penguins power plays. The Crunch failed to convert on their three man-advantage chances.

Lindback stopped all 30 shots he faced in his Syracuse Crunch debut. Penguins goaltender Peter Mannino stopped 18 of 19 shots in relief of Jeff Deslauriers. He left the game after allowing three goals on eight shots.

Tanner Richard gave the Crunch an early lead 2:02 into the first period. After receiving the pass from Richard Panik, Richard shot the puck past Deslauries into the top left corner. Panik tallied his second assist of the night with a pass to Taormina who netted his fifth goal of the season, bringing the Crunch lead to 2-0. Richard was credited with the secondary assist.

The Crunch extended their lead to 4-0 in the second period with goals from Taormina and Olson. At 5:23 Taormina's shot was deflected in front of the Penguins net, resulting in his second goal of the night. Captain Mike Angelidis extended his point streak to four games by picking up an assist, Philippe Paradis was credited with the second helper. Less than two minutes later, Evan Rankin found Olson on the left wing who was able to put the puck past Mannino.

The Crunch host the Adirondack Phantoms tomorrow at 7:00 p.m. at the War Memorial Arena.
