Binghamton Senators News Release
ST. JOHN'S, N.L. - Binghamton traveled to Newfoundland for the first of two back-to-back meetings versus the St. John's IceCaps, falling 6-2. Nathan Lawson, who played in net for the first time since leaving the game February 8 in Ottawa against Hamilton, allowed six goals while the B-Sens gave the IceCaps nine chances on the man advantage.
Adam Lowry gave the IceCaps the 1-0 lead seconds after Binghamton successfully killed off a five versus three St. John's man advantage, knocking home a rebound from Lawson just over five minutes into the opening period. The IceCaps notched two goals 30 seconds apart to make it 3-0 before the end of the first. John Albert made it 2-0 at 12:21 on a power-play strike before KaelMouillierat scored his 17th of the year off a Binghamton turnover sending the Sens to the locker room down 3-0 after 20 minutes of play. Lawson stopped 10 of 13 shots faced in the first frame while Michael Hutchinson stopped all seven scoring chances for Binghamton.
St. John's added a pair of goals during the middle frame while Binghamton failed to find the back of the net for the second straight period. Mouillierat made it 4-0 on his second goal of the game 10:18 into the frame on the power play off assists from Albert and Will O'Neill. With less than one minute remaining in the period Albert notched his second tally of the night off a feed from Kyle MacKinnon making it 5-0 heading into the final period of play. Hutchinson stonewalled all 12 shots faced during the frame while Lawson allowed two goals on 11 IceCaps shots.
There was no third period magic for the B-Sens as Eric O'Dell scored on a penalty shot 2:38 into the final period to move the score to 6-0. Binghamton managed back-to-back goals less than three minutes apart, the first coming from Buddy Robinson with both teams skating with four skaters before Jean-Gabriel Pageau notched a power-play strike at 10:14 to move the final to 6-2. Mark Stone tallied an assist on Pageau's strike to give the forward points in 12 consecutive games. Hutchinson finished with 26 saves on 28 shots faced while Lawson struggled allowing six goals on 34 shots.
The B-Sens and IceCaps will play tomorrow for the third game of the four-game season series. The game will start at 7:30p.m. NST (6:00p.m. EST).
