
Milwaukee Cruises Past Iowa 9-1

Milwaukee, WI - The Iowa Wild (22-23-6-4, 54 points) was defeated by the Milwaukee Admirals (24-19-6-6, 60 points) 9-1 in front of 6,492 fans at BMO Harris Bradley Center on Friday night. Milwaukee erupted with four goals in the first period and four more in the second period to take an 8-0 lead into the final frame. On a conditioning stint from Nashville, Admirals goalie Pekka Rinna (1-0-0) stopped 16 of 17 shots for the victory. Nine different Milwaukee skaters registered a multi-point game in the lopsided win, led by forward Mikka Salomaki's three assists. Iowa goalie Hannu Toivonen (1-2-1) suffered the loss with 17 saves and was pulled after allowing eight goals in the first two periods. Defenseman Zack Miskovic scored the team's lone goal, as Iowa dropped its fourth straight decision. The Wild continues a five-game road trip in Chicago on Sunday, Mar. 2 at 3 p.m.
Milwaukee jumped out to a 2-0 lead before the period was halfway over. Rookie Colton Scissons opened the scoring at 7:16 of the first period for the 1-0 lead. Milwaukee forward Vinny Saponari and defenseman Charles-Olivier Roussel each had an assist on the power-play goal, Scisson's 20th of the year. Defenseman Joonas Jarvinen scored his third of the year, sending a one-timer past Hannu Toivonen at 9:29 for the 2-0 lead. Forwards Taylor Beck and Austin Watson each had an assist on the Admirals second goal in less than three minutes. Milwaukee's Bryan Rodney made it a 3-0 lead at 12:42, potting a pass from Mikka Salomaki. Rodney's fourth of the year was also assisted by Patrick Cehlin. The Admirals capped of the first-period scoring outburst with the team's fourth goal of the night at 17:17. Austin Watson buried a centering pass off an Iowa turnover, scoring his 14th goal of the year for the 4-0 lead. Salomaki and Beck each had an assist on the goal.
Defenseman Joe Piskula extended the Admirals lead to 5-0 merely 46 seconds into the middle frame. Forward Colton Scissons set up Piskula at the blueline, who sent a floater through traffic past Toivonen for his second goal of the year. Jarvinen added his second goal of the night, his fourth of the season made it 6-0 at 4:36 of the second period. Milwaukee extended its lead to 7-0 at 10:54 of the middle period as defenseman Scott Valentine netted his first goal of the season. Forwards Kevin Henderson and Mark Van Guilder each had an assist on the play. The Admirals made it 8-0 with a power-play goal at 17:51 of the second period off Mark Van Guilder's tenth goal of the year. Scissons and Saponari each had an assist on the team's final goal of the second period.
Iowa goalie Johan Gustafsson took over in net for the third period, relieving Toivonen. Milwaukee's Joonas rask scored a shorthanded goal at 13:08 of the final frame, extending the Admirals' lead to 9-1. Iowa defenseman Zach Miskovic ended Milwaukee's shutout bid, scoring his first goal of the season at 15:35. Forward Jim McKenzie had the lone assist on the goal that trimmed the Milwaukee lead to 9-1.
The team remains on a five-game road trip with stops in Milwaukee, Chicago and Grand Rapids prior to returning home on Sunday, Mar. 16 at 5:05 p.m. to host San Antonio.
