Portland Pirates News Release

Lewiston, Maine - The Portland Pirates will host American Heart Association Cardiac Awareness Night presented by Central Maine Medical Center this Sunday as they take on the Hartford Wolf Pack at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee at 4 PM. The Pirates will wear their red away jerseys for the second and final time at home this season as they raise awareness for cardiac health. Central Maine Medical Center and the American Heart Association will both host a number of cardiac awareness related fundraisers at the game.

Proceeds from the night's 50/50 raffle will benefit the Central Maine Heart and Vascular Institute, which will be put towards treatment and research of cardiac related causes. Central Maine Heart and Vascular Institute has been providing comprehensive cardiac care for more than a decade, with a large portion of funding coming from donations.

In addition, American Heart Association Mystery Pucks are available for purchase at Sunday's game for $10 each, with all proceeds benefitting the American Heart Association. Each specially designed white mystery puck has been signed by a member of the 2013-14 Portland Pirates team. Every puck purchased counts as an entry in a raffle for team signed merchandise, including jerseys, helmets, and more. Pucks can be purchased at Sunday's game in the lobby of the Androscoggin Bank Colisee or online here: https://www.formstack.com/forms/portlandpirates-AHA .

"We are pleased to join with the Portland Pirates in focusing attention on cardiac health," said Susan Horton, Executive Director of the Central Maine Heart and Vascular Institute in Lewiston. "Cardiac disease remains the number one cause of death in the United States. CMHVI is a leader in fighting this disease and one of our weapons is education. The more people know about cardiac health, the more successful we will be in battling the disease."

"We're excited to host this event for the first time in Lewiston as we raise awareness for cardiac awareness" said Brian Petrovek, Portland Pirates Managing Owner/CEO. "It's exciting to work with both Central Maine Medical Center and the American Heart Association on cardiac health and we're glad that we can spread awareness regarding such an important issue."

Special "Heart Packs" are available for purchase for the game with a portion of proceeds benefiting the American Heart Association. For more information, or to purchase a heart pack, visit https://www.formstack.com/forms/portlandpirates-AHA or call Benjamin Locke at (207) 828-4665 ext. 506.
