
Bulldogs Bite Monsters in Shootout

HAMILTON, ONTARIO - Hamilton Bulldogs goaltender Robert Mayer made 30 saves and forward Patrick Holland scored the eventual shootout game winner as the 'Dogs (24-25-1-4) edged the Lake Erie Monsters (23-25-0-6) 3-2 on Friday evening at FirstOntario Centre.
Lake Erie forward Michael Schumacher got the Monsters up 1-0 at 8:13 of the first period, with an assist from forward Colin Smith.
Hamilton forward Sven Andrighetto answered back for the 'Dogs to tie the game 1-1 at 17:13 of the opening frame, with an assist from forward Maxime Macenauer. The goal was Andrighetto's 13th of the season
Bulldogs defenceman Greg Pateryn put his club ahead 2-1 with his 10th goal of the season at 16:08 of the second period, with helpers from defenceman Nathan Beaulieu and forward Justin Courtnall.
Monsters defenceman Stefan Elliott tied the game 2-2 when he put a wrist shot through a screen and past 'Dogs goaltender Robert Mayer at 7:37 of the third period. Forwards Garrett Meurs and Mitchell Heard drew assists on the play.
After a scoreless second half of the third period and overtime, forward Gabriel Dumont and Holland scored for Hamilton in the shootout, while Smith replied for Lake Erie.
Mayer made 30 saves on 32 shots in the Bulldogs net in the win. Calvin Pickard made 29 saves on 31 shots for the Monsters in the loss.
Hamilton went 0-for-3 on the power play, while Lake Erie went 0-for-2.
