Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release
WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins announced today that forwards Tom Kuhnhackl and Anton Zlobin have been assigned to the Wheeling Nailers (ECHL) by the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Kuhnhackl has registered eight goals, two assists and 22 penalty minutes in 48 games this season for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. The 22-year old was limited to just 11 contests with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton last year due to injury, recording four points (2g-2a) and 6 PIM. He also posted one goal over two contests for Wheeling.
Kuhnhackl skated for two seasons in the Ontario Hockey League from 2010-12, compiling 47 goals and 50 assists over 97 total appearances between the Windsor Spitfires and Niagara IceDogs. Originally from Landshut, Germany, Kuhnhackl was a fourth-round pick of the Pittsburgh Penguins (110th overall) in the 2010 NHL Draft.
Skating in his first professional season, Zlobin opened 2013-14 with the Nailers and quickly collected nine points (4g-5a) along with four penalty minutes in his first nine games. The 21-year old was assigned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on December 2 and went on to gather five goals, five assists and 14 penalty minutes over 30 games for the Penguins.
Zlobin was selected by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the sixth round (173rd overall) in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. He played three years of junior hockey in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, totaling 212 points (92g-120a) and 121 PIM in 186 games between Shawinigan and Val d'Or.
The Penguins begin a five-game road swing this Friday night when they travel to Syracuse to face the Crunch at 7:00pm
