Lincoln Splits Doubleheader In Shreveport

SHREVEPORT, LA - The Lincoln Saltdogs split a doubleheader against the Shreveport-Bossier Captains on Sunday, winning the opener 3-2 and dropping the nightcap 12-6. Lincoln's record stands at 13-9 on the second half of the season.
Game one started out as a pitchers' duel between Lincoln's Zac Cline and the Captains' Jimmy Heard. Both pitchers allowed one run and pitched into the sixth inning, but neither hurler factored into the decision. Rafael Alvarez hit a solo home run in the fourth to give Lincoln a 1-0 lead, but the Captains tied it with a run in the sixth. The Saltdogs bounced back to score a pair of unearned runs in the seventh, thanks to two Shreveport-Bossier errors, and although the Captains scored a run in the bottom half of the inning, Chris Thompson pitched himself out of a jam to record his 24th save. Adam Daniels (4-2) earned the win in relief for Lincoln, pitching a scoreless 1.2 innings.
The Saltdogs appeared to be in good shape in game two as well, after Brandon Jones hit a three-run home run in the second inning. The Captains scored twice in the bottom of the second, but Shawn McGill scored on a passed ball in the fourth to give Lincoln a 4-2 advantage. It all came apart in the bottom of the fifth, however, as Shreveport-Bossier scored ten runs on eight hits and three walks to break the game wide open. The Dogs did add a pair of runs in the sixth, on RBI by Jones and Josh Burrus, but it wasn't enough as the Captains earned the doubleheader split.
The Saltdogs now travel to El Paso to open a three-game series Monday night at 8:05 Central Time. Righty Jarrett Gardner will make the start for Lincoln.
