SIOUX FALLS, SD- The Wichita Wingnuts lost 4-3 to the Sioux Falls Canaries at Sioux Falls Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Leading 3-1 in the bottom of the ninth, Sioux Falls rallied for three runs off of Joe D'Alessandro. J.D. Reininger and Joe Dempsey opened the inning with back-to-back walks. Joe Anthonsen hit a groundball up the middle that was thrown away by shortstop Josh Horn, allowing Reininger to score and moving the tying and winning runs into scoring position. Tim Hutting capped off the inning with a bloop single to right center that scored both runs and handed the Wingnuts a stunning loss.
Wichita had led for most of the game. With the bases loaded and two out in the top of the third, Dustan Mohr singled into left field on a 3-0 pitch from Jino Gonzalez to give the Wingnuts a 2-0 advantage. Beau Torbert homered to left field in the fourth off of Will Savage, cutting the Wingnuts' lead in half.
Neither team would score until the top of the eighth, when Greg Porter doubled down the right field line and then scored on another RBI single by Mohr. This one came on a hit and run with Porter breaking for third. Mohr grounded it through the left side with Trevor Lawhorn retreating towards third base.
Savage tossed six strong innings, allowing one run on five hits, walking one and striking out two in a no-decision. Justin Young, Richard Salazar, and Doug Hurn combined for two scoreless innings. Porter's double extended his hitting streak to 12 games in a row.
