Lincoln Saltdogs News Release
The Lincoln Saltdogs survived a back-and-forth affair in El Paso on Sunday, winning 10-9. Lincoln improves to 21-14 on the season.
With the game tied at eight in the top of the ninth and two out, Juan Richardson lined a single to center off of El Paso reliever Patrick Lawler (0-1) Shawn McGill followed with a double to left that scored Richardson. Chris Brown then singled to drive in McGill, putting Lincoln in front 10-8.
El Paso, however, threatened to win the game in the bottom of the ninth against Saltdogs closer Chris Thompson. The Diablos put runners on first and second with one out, and Rico Santana hit an RBI single to make it 10-9. A wild pitch put the tying run on third and the winning run on second, and an intentional walk loaded the bases. Jonathan Reynoso lifted a fly ball to shallow center, and Mike Provencher attempted to tag up and score on the catch. Gavin Dickey made a pinpoint throw to the plate to retire Provencher and end the game.
Lincoln scored four runs in the first two innings, on two-run home runs by Phil Hawke in the first and McGill in the second. El Paso plated five runs in the first three innings, three of which were unearned. The Saltdogs tied it in the sixth on an RBI single by Brandon Jones, and then added three unearned runs in the seventh for an 8-5 lead. The Diablos struck back in the bottom of the seventh with three runs of their own to tie the game at eight. Adam Daniels (3-0) came in to pitch Lincoln out of the seventh, and tossed two scoreless innings to earn his third win. McGill ended the night 4-for-5 with a home run, four RBI and three runs scored. Richardson went 3-for-5 with an RBI. Brown and Argelis Nunez each had two hits apiece for Lincoln.
After an off-day Monday, the Saltdogs return home to host Sioux Falls in a three-game series that begins Tuesday night at 7:05. Right-hander Jim Paduch will take the mound for the Saltdogs.
