SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The American Association announced on Monday that Sioux Falls Pheasants starting pitcher Chris Salberg has been named the Pointsreak Pitcher of the Week. The selection was made by Pointstreak, the official statistician of the American Association.

In of the week of June 14 - 20, Salberg (7-0, 1.71) earned wins over the Wichita Wingnuts and the St. Paul Saints, including the first complete-game victory of his career on Sunday. In 15 innings of work, Salberg held opponents to just two earned runs, eight hits and no walks. He struck out 10 batters. Salberg's 1.71 ERA is currently best in the American Association. The undefeated lefty has won seven of eight starts and is second in the league in wins.

"Chris Salberg is a key member of our rotation because he knows how to get outs," Pheasants manager Steve Shirley said. "His consistency makes him very effective against opposing hitters. He is definitely deserving of this award."

Salberg is the fourth Pheasants player to earn Player of the Week honors this year. First baseman Brandon Sing was awarded the status for the first week of June. Outfielder Reggie Abercrombie and pitcher Brian Flores took the honor for the opening week of the season.

The first-place Pheasants have a 25-10 record, the best in the American Association. They hold a four-game lead over the Lincoln Saltdogs with 13 games remaining in the first half of the season. The Pheasants visit Lincoln at 7:05 p.m. on Tuesday, June 22, for the first game of a three-game series. The game can be heard live on Sioux Falls Sports Radio 1230-AM KWSN and www.kwsn.com.
