June 21, 2010 El Paso, TX - The Diablos had one big inning and were then able to hold off the Grand Prairie AirHogs winning 6-4 at QuickTrip Park on Monday night. The Diablos win game one of a series for the sixth straight series.

The Airhogs took a 3-0 lead when they scored in two in the third inning and added one more in the fourth. The lead was erased in a big way by the Diablos in the sixth inning when they took the lead scoring all six of their runs on only two hits. The Diablos sent 11 men to the plate and were helped out by the AirHogs pitching staff who walked four and hit two batters in the inning. The big hit in the inning came from Benji Johnson who had a bases clearing double to give El Paso the lead. Grand Prairie cut the lead to 6-4 in the seventh inning.

The game featured 16 walks between the two teams with both teams issuing eight walks. The eight walks for the Diablos was a season high as they used their walks in a much more efficient way. There were only nine hits between the two clubs with El Paso picking up only four of them. Kyle Nichols led the way going 2-4 with an RBI.

D.J. Mattox made the start and picked up his fourth win of the season by pitching into the seventh. Mattox (4-4) allowed just three earned runs on three hits and seven walks. His counterpart, Ryne Tacker also struggled with control walking seven but allowing only one hit. The Diablos first hit wasn't until their big seventh inning. The El Paso bull pen did a fine job down the stretch. Nick Renault sat down the last four of the game in order to pick up his second save of the season.

El Paso can go for the series win on Tuesday night. Aaron Kalb (0-2, 4.50) goes to the mound for the Diablos. First pitch is slated for 6:05. The game can be heard on ESPN 1380 or online at www.diablos.com.
