Pelicans' First Baseman Javier Brito Named Hitter of the Week

After an outstanding week offensively for the Pensacola Pelicans, Javier Brito was named the Pointstreak.com Hitter of the Week. In the last six games, the power-hitting first baseman hit .591 with two doubles, two home runs, eight RBI, seven walks, a .714 on-base percentage, and an amazing .955 slugging percentage. On Saturday, June 19 vs. the Fort Worth Cats, Brito highlighted the great week by belting two majestic homeruns and driving in four runs to help lead the Pelicans past the Fort Worth Cats 8-2. Brito is batting .500 with four homeruns and 13 RBI in his last ten games.

The clean up hitter is on fire batting an impressive .353 with five homeruns and 26 runs batted in on the season. He's second on the team with 24 walks and on-base percentage (.463). Brito's ranked 10th in the league in hitting, tied for 7th in home runs, and tied for 8th in RBI.

Brito becomes the first Pelican to win the weekly awards this season.

Defensively, Chris Salberg of the Sioux Falls Pheasants was named Pitcher of the Week where in two starts, he went 2-0 with ten strikeouts, one walk, and gave up only three runs in 15 innings.

Pointstreak is the official statistician for the American Association.

The Pelicans begin a six-game home stand tonight at 6:45 versus the Shreveport-Bossier Captains. Each night has an exciting promotion including Mutt Monday (tonight), Thirsty for Your Blood Thursday with a blood drive, hat giveaway on Friday and post-game fireworks on Saturday.
