Indianapolis Indians News Release
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Indianapolis Indians' right-handed pitchers Brad Lincoln and Kevin Hart combined to allow four hits, while recording six strikeouts in a nine inning, 3-0 shutout of the Louisville Bats on Wednesday night at Louisville Slugger Field.
With the win, Indianapolis snaps its season-high three game losing streak and improves its record to 3-4. The loss drops Louisville to an identical 3-4 mark.
Lincoln (6.0 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 3 SO) turned in a dominating six inning, zero run performance to earn his first victory of the season for the Tribe. The right-hander limited the Bats to six total baserunners and allowed only one runner to reach third base. The Indians' bullpen was equally impressive on the evening, as RHP Hart (3.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 SO) came on in relief of Lincoln and held the Bats hitless over three innings of work to notch the save.
The Indians jumped on the board first to take a 1-0 lead in the top half of the third inning. SS Argenis Diaz worked a 10-pitch walk after starting the plate appearance behind in the count 0-2 and later moved to second base on a sacrifice bunt by Lincoln. CF Jose Tabata then scored Diaz with a single, and in the process, upped his hitting streak to six consecutive contests with a base knock.
Indianapolis tacked on an insurance run in the top of the seventh inning with a two-out, run-scoring single by Diaz. LF Neil Walker started the rally with a one-out walk and moved to third on a two-out single by C Luke Carlin. Then, with runners at the corners and two men down, Diaz delivered in the clutch, singling home Walker to give the Tribe a 2-0 advantage.
RF Brandon Moss added another two-out RBI single in the eighth inning to drive home 3B Pedro Alvarez and give the Indians the decisive 3-0 advantage.
The Tribe's offensive attack was paced by Diaz (1-for-3, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 RBI), Tabata (1-for-5, 1 RBI), Moss (1-for-4, 1 RBI) and the team's only multi-hit performer, Carlin (2-for-3, 1 2B, 1 BB). 1B Steve Pearce (1-for-4, 1 2B) also extended his hitting streak to seven games with a two-out double in the first inning.
The Bats managed only four hits in the contest, including two by the starting pitcher, Travis Wood (2-for-2, 1 2B).
Wood (6.2 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 5 SO) was again the tough luck loser for the Bats after allowing only two runs in 6.2 innings of work. The Louisville left hander gave up five runs - only one earned - in four innings in his first start of the season on April 9.
The two teams wrap up their short two-game series on Thursday, April 15 at 7:05 p.m. LHP Donnie Veal is expected to get the call for Indianapolis, while LHP Matt Maloney is the probable starter for Louisville.
The contest will be carried by WXLW-950 AM and www.IndyIndians.com with Howard Kellman and Scott McCauley. The pre-game show begins at 6:45 p.m.
