Bulls Sweep Braves, Head Home 5-2 After 3-1 10th-Inning Win

(Lawrenceville, GA) Justin Ruggiano's 10th inning two-run double gave Durham its fourth straight win on Wednesday, 3-1 over the Braves. Durham plays its home opener on Thursday after a 5-2 road trip.

Craig Albernaz started the inning by beating out a ground ball to deep short against RHP Cristhian Martinez (0-1). Joe Dillon then singled to left on an 0-2 pitch and Albernaz went first to third, with Dillon advancing to second on the throw to third. Rashad Eldridge grounded to first with the infield in, setting the stage for Ruggiano. He smacked a 1-1 pitch past first baseman Barbaro Canizares for his first two RBI of the season.

Winston Abreu earned his save with a 1-2-3 tenth. Joe Bateman (1-0) pitched 1.1 scoreless innings for the win. Starter Heath Phillips was brilliant on the mound, going 7.2 innings. Joe Thurston had tied the game in the eighth with a solo leadoff homer off Phillips.

Durham broke up a scoreless tie in the seventh on Chris Richard's run-scoring double. The Bulls collected 10 hits, a season high, two by Ruggiano and Angel Chavez. Durham went 5-2 on the trip with all five wins by one or two runs.
