Moosic, PA - A long night at the plate for the Chiefs turned into their second loss of the season on Wednesday night. The Scranton/Wilkes Barre Yankees downed Syracuse 1-0 in the first road game of the year for the Chiefs. The Yankees Greg Golson hit a solo home run off of Syracuse starter Andrew Kown in the fifth inning for the only offensive output of the game by either team.

It was the sixth one run game of the season for Syracuse who falls to 5-2. Kevin Mench led the way for the Chiefs with three hits and Josh Whitesell chipped in two base hits as well. The Chiefs stranded thirteen runners on base and hit two of fifteen with runners in scoring position.

Andrew Kown (0-1) fell in his first start of the year going five innings and surrendering five hits. He walked none and struck out one moving his ERA to 1.04. In relief, Jack Spradlin pitched 1.1 innings walking one on three hits and Josh Wilkie threw 1.2 innings striking out two and walking one batter.

Scranton/Wilkes Barre improves to 4-3 and is over the .500 mark for the first time since an opening day win over Buffalo. Reliever Royce Ring (1-0) gets the win in relief throwing two innings and fanning two Syracuse batters. Zach McAllister started for the Yankees going four innings and striking out four.

The Chiefs and Yankees play the middle game of a three game series Thursday night at PNC field. The starting pitchers are Collin Balester (0-0, 9.64) for Syracuse and Romulo Sanchez (0-0, 0.00) for Scranton/Wilkes Barre. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
