Lincoln Saltdogs News Release
SHREVEPORT, LA - The Lincoln Saltdogs shut down Shreveport on Wednesday, blanking the Sports 3-0 at Fair Grounds Field. The win moves the Saltdogs to 12-7 on the second half of the season.
Lincoln starter Jarrett Gardner (8-3) tossed yet another gem, running his personal winning streak to five. The Saltdogs ace threw a complete-game shutout, allowing just four hits and no walks while striking out eight. Three of Shreveport's four hits came in a row with one out in the third inning, but with the bases loaded, Gardner got a popout and a grounder to second to get out of the frame unscathed.
The Saltdogs used the momentum from escaping the third to break through in the fourth. With runners on first and third and one man out, Shawn McGill singled on a hit-and-run play to score Jonny Kaplan with the game's first run. Mario Delgado added a sacrifice fly later in the inning to give Lincoln a 2-0 lead. The Dogs scored their third run in the ninth inning, as Delgado singled, stole second and came home on an RBI single by Shea McFeely.
Gardner, meanwhile, only allowed one more baserunner after getting out of the third inning. He set the Sports down in order in seven of the game's nine innings. Offensively, Delgado and McFeely each had two hits and an RBI for the Saltdogs, who continue to set the pace in the American Association North.
The Saltdogs and Sports play game two of their four-game series Thursday night at 7:05. Vince Davis is scheduled to make the start for Lincoln.
