Shreveport-Bossier Captains News Release

Eddie Gerald, hitting coach of the Shreveport Sports the past four years, has been named acting manager of the Sports for the remainder of the 2008 season. Gerald will replace Terry Bevington as manager.

Scott Berry, President of the Sports said, "We have decided to replace Terry at this point of the season because of philosophical differences between the club and Bevington. I appreciate what Terry has done to obtain players and the way he has handled the players during his time with the Sports. However, we believe a change is needed to be made. At the end of the season we will evaluate the managerial situation and move onto 2009".

Berry continued, "While we are disappointed in our overall performance to this point, we remain committed to fielding a first class team both on and off the field and we are exploring all of our options to improve the team and our organization".

The Sports are currently 5-14 in the second half and tied for fourth place in the South Division of the American Association. The overall season record of 22-45 is the worst in the league. The Sports are playing Lincoln this week at Fair Grounds Field with the series continuing through Saturday.
