ST. PAUL, MN (July 22, 2008) - Former St. Paul Saint Darryl Strawberry was an honorary captain. Bill Murray made a visit to the mound in the eighth inning to talk with the North Division team. At the end of the night a guy in a hockey mask ziplined into the stadium. In between all that the South Division All-Stars defeated the North Division All-Stars 11-4 on Tuesday night at Midway Stadium in the Third American Association All-Star Game presented by Medica.
The South Division exploded in the third inning against Sioux Falls pitcher Pat Mahomes. They sent nine men to the plate and it started when Brandon Sing led off with a walk. Ron Fenwick singled him to second. Walter Olmstead then hit a grounder to Mahomes, who turned to throw to second, but the throw pulled Kevin Hooper off the bag, loading the bases. Brian Fryer doubled home Sing and Fenwick, giving the South a 2-0 lead. David Espinosa followed with a two-run double making it 4-0. Two batters later J.B. Tucker doubled home Espinosa making it 5-0.
