Normal CornBelters News Release

Normal, IL - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, shut down the River City Rascal offense and overcame a two-run deficit on their way to a 3-2 victory Saturday night at the Corn Crib. Normal starting pitcher Jacob Liedka (2-7) broke a five-start losing streak with the complete game win for the 'Belters, allowing just two runs on four hits over nine strong innings, striking out seven and walking four. Justin Sarratt (0-1) took the loss in his first appearance for River City.

River City jumped on the board early in the top of the 1st when leadoff man Eric Williams scored on an RBI single by Jason Patton. Two batters later Curran Redal brought home Doug Sanders with an RBI single of his own, giving the Rascals an early 2-0 advantage after just a half inning of play.

Normal answered in the bottom of the frame as centerfielder Ty Wiesemeyer came across to score on an RBI single by rightfielder Steven Felix, cutting the Rascal lead to 2-1.

The 'Belters got the offense rolling again in the 3rd as Felix sent a two-run bomb to the berm in right, bringing in left fielder Bobby Rinard, and giving Normal their first lead of the game at 3-2.

Three runs would prove to be enough as Liedka shut out the Rascal offense over the final eight innings of play.

The series wraps up with a double-header Sunday evening beginning at 5pm at the Corn Crib. Tyler Stovall (1-7, 6.00 ERA) will take the ball for Normal in game one facing off against River City's Blaine O'Brien (0-1, 54.00 ERA).
