
Grizzlies Win Again; Defeat Miners in Marion

MARION, IL - Gateway scored five runs in the seventh inning to break a 3-3 tie and held on for an 11-5 win Saturday night against the Southern Illinois Miners at Rent One Park.
The Grizzlies have now won 10 of 12 and are in second place in the Frontier League West Division, trailing first-place Schaumburg by two games.
Gateway (37-27) jumped out to a 3-0 lead after two and a half innings. Justin Dunning hit a two-out double in the second and came around to score on a Jonathan Johnson RBI single. Vladimir Frias and Chris McClendon both had a sacrifice fly in the third inning to make it 3-0.
Southern Illinois (37-27) tied the game with two runs in the third and one in the fourth.
The score stay tied until the seventh inning. Rogelio Noris hit a two-run home run to left field to break the tie, McClendon drove in a run on a double and the Grizzlies scored two more runs on a passed ball and wild pitch.
Gateway scored three more runs in the ninth inning for insurance. McClendon picked up his third RBI of the game on a walk and Antone DeJesus drove in two runs with a single.
Ju'Vaun West (3-2) picked up the win for the Grizzlies. The right-hander from Atlanta, MO threw two scoreless innings.
Johnson, Noris and Jon Myers all had three hits to lead the way for the Grizzlies offense.
The Grizzlies continue their series with the Miners on Sunday night. Game one of the series is Sunday night at 5:05 CT.
