Last time out.
Joliet fell to Schaumburg 7-1 last night. Before Joliet scored in the ninth, it marked 29 straight innings that Schaumburg had held Joliet's lineup scoreless. After a scoreless two and a half innings, Schaumburg blew the game open in the third. Jereme Milons, Karexon Sanchez and Nate Baumann all notched RBIs. The Boomers kept rolling in the fifth on a solo shot by Steve McQuail to take the six run lead, and Sanchez tagged a run-scoring single in the sixth for a seven-run advantage. Joliet scored for the first time in the series in the top of the ninth inning when Kyle Maunus laced an RBI single to give the game its 7-1 final score. Matt Sommo made his debut with Joliet in the starting role, throwing five innings on six runs, and was stuck with the loss. Dustin Quattrocchi, Chase Doremus, and Geoff Brown piggybacked in relief. Cody Griebling notched the win in an impressive complete-game.
For Starters.
Jim Schult is looking for his first home win of the 2012 season. Schult is coming off a no-decision on July 23 in Traverse City as he went five innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on six hits. Schult has faced Windy City three times this year and started once against the ThunderBolts. He went seven innings on June 25 against Windy City in Crestwood, giving up only one run on four hits as he picked up the victory. Schult brings professional experience to the fold as the Eastern Connecticut State alum spent 2011 in the Canadian-American Association with the New York Federals. The traveling team struggled but Schult finished the season with 10 starts and his ERA was the best on the team among pitchers with 10 or more starts that season. Schult had a decorated career at Eastern Connecticut State, culminating in 2011 when he was name the co-D-III National Player of the Year.
Season low.
The Slammers are a season low of 11 games under .500. They are a season high 12 games out of first place in the West Division.

Abel is able.

Workhorse.

Save me.
Last season Joliet native Ryan Quigley set the Frontier League's single-season record with 28 saves. Quigley is now in the Padres organization but former Angels farmhand Amalio Diaz has picked up right where Quigley left off. Diaz is second in the league with 15 saves on the year in 16 attempts.
Falling behind early.
The opponent has scored first against the Slammers 43 times this season. Joliet is 14-29 when that happens. The Slammers are 12-8 when they score first.
