Grizzlies Drop Series Finale to Rascals

O'FALLON, MO - River City jumped out to a five-run lead after three innings of play and held on for an 8-5 victory Friday night at T.R. Hughes Ballpark.

Despite the loss, the Grizzlies won the series after taking the first two games. It was the second straight series where the Grizzlies couldn't win the finale to get the series sweep.

River City (32-31) scored three runs off of Grizzlies starter Brett Zawacki (1-1) in the first inning to take their first lead of the series. Charlie Lisk had an RBI single while Curran Redal drove in two runs on a double.

Jeremy Synan hit a two-run home run in the third inning to extend the Rascals lead to five runs.

Gateway (36-27) got on the scoreboard for the first time in the fifth. John Shelby hit a solo home run to right-center field, his ninth of the season. Landon Hernandez and Justin Dunning reached on errors before Antone DeJesus brought them both home with a two-run triple.

River City picked up two runs in the fifth on a Ben Hewett two-run double and a run in the sixth on a Charlie Lisk sacrifice fly to take a five-run lead.

Gateway rallied in the late innings, but left eight runners on base in the last four innings. DeJesus had an RBI double and Jon Myers an RBI single as part of a two-run seventh inning.

Gateway left 11 runners on base and only scored five runs on 11 hits. Jonathan Johnson, DeJesus, Jon Myers and Shelby all had two hits.

Zawacki took the loss, giving up seven runs on seven hits in four and a third innings. He walked a batter and struck out a batter.

The Grizzlies continue their road trip with three games in Marion, IL against the Southern Illinois Miners. Game one of the series is Saturday night at 7:05 CT.
