Lexington Legends Clinch Second Half Southern Division Title

FLUOR FIELD (Greenville, SC) - The Lexington Legends took the first game of an important four-game series facing the Greenville Drive 5-4. Coupled with an Asheville Tourists loss, the Legends have officially clinched the South Atlantic League second half Southern Division title. Lexington will take on the first half champions of the Southern Division, the Rome Braves beginning on September 5.
In the bottom of the first inning, Kervin Suarez homered on the first pitch and the Drive led 1-0.
In the top of the third inning, Kyle Isbel led off with a double to right field. Back-to-back wild pitches thrown by Angel Padron Isbel to score and the Legends tied the game 1-1. Nick Pratto then singled to down the first baseline. Brewer Hicklen then smashed a two-run home run to center field and the Legends led 3-1.
The Legends struck again in the top of the sixth inning. Cristian Perez led off with a double to left field then advanced to third on a fielding error by the Drive. Isbel singled home Perez and the Legends led 4-1.
In the top of the seventh inning, Pratto reached base again on a line drive to right field then stole second base. Hicklen then deposited an RBI single to center field and Lexington led 5-1.
Marcelino Martinez earned the victory in his 2018 debut for Lexington. He tossed 6.0 innings allowing three runs on four hits while walking one and striking out nine. Angel Padron received the loss pitching 6.0 innings allowing five runs (four earned) on 12 hits while striking out four.
Fans can purchase ticket packages for the entirety of playoffs held at Whitaker Bank Ballpark. Prices range from $24 Box Seats to $66 Diamond Club seats for all three games which are slated for September 5, 10 and 11. All purchases are final. Any games not played or if the Legends are eliminated from the playoffs, accounts will be credited for 2019 tickets and ticket packages. Single game tickets will go on sale Monday, August 27.
