CHARLESTON S.C. - First baseman Dermis Garcia drove home right fielder Carlos Vidal in the bottom of the 10th, his second game-winning single in as many Friday home games, as the Charleston RiverDogs snapped the West Virginia Power's seven-game winning streak, 4-3, in front of 5,491 at Joe Riley Park.

West Virginia (70-60, 33-31) took a 3-2 lead in the top of the 10th on Jesse Medrano's single off Carlos Espinal (1-2), scoring the go-ahead run in Chris Sharpe. Espinal was able to roll a double-play and forced a popup to limit the damage.

Charleston's (29-36, 62-71) Frederick Cuevas pinch ran for catcher Ryan Lidge to start the bottom of the 10th with the new pace-of-play rules. Vidal went back up the middle off Cam Alldred (0-1) to score Cuevas and tie the game, and after shortstop Oswaldo Cabrera singled to set up runners at the corners, Garcia won the game with a third straight single.

Garcia collected the walk-off hit last Friday, August 24, with a 10th inning single in a 2-1 victory against Greenville. The 20-year-old has reached safely in 20 of 21 after having his streak snapped in Thursday's finale in Columbia.

The RiverDogs took the first lead in the second inning on an RBI groundout from left fielder Mitchell Hansen. The former Los Angeles Dodgers farmhand hit a liner off West Virginia starter Hunter Stratton, allowing second baseman Wilkerman Garcia to score.

The Dogs extended their lead in the sixth on a groundout from centerfielder Leonardo Molina that plated designated hitter Welfrin Mateo.

18-year-old Roansy Contreras pitched six shutout innings in his final start of the season for the Dogs, a two-hit effort that included six strikeouts. The Yamasa, D.R. native finished his season with the RiverDogs 0-2 but had a 3.38 ERA in seven starts.

West Virginia came in a game ahead of Kannapolis in the overall standings as the Power and Intimidators are fighting for the final playoff spot in the Northern Division. Kannapolis pulled even on Friday but West Virginia still holds the tiebreaker and has a magic number of three with as many games remaining.

Ballpark Fun

With the kickoff of the football season, the RiverDogs blasted the final Home Telecom postgame fireworks to the symphonic sounds of college fight songs. It was also the final Red Shirt Friday as the RiverDogs auctioned off the game-worn red jerseys to raise funds for the Palmetto Military Support Group.

Upcoming

The final RiverDogs series continues Saturday at 6:05 as Charleston right-hander Nolan Martinez (0-3, 5.49) takes on West Virginia southpaw Ike Schlabach (7-4, 3.81). The RiverDogs will celebrate National No Rhyme or Reason Day with a night full of absurdities. Don't ask why. The game can be heard on "The Big Talker" WTMA 1250 AM in the tri-county area with online streaming audio via the RiverDogs' TuneIn radio station.

RiverDogs single-game tickets, including options to the Riley Park Club, are available for the remainder of the 2018 campaign, the club's 25th season as the RiverDogs and their "175th season in dog years." Ticket information can be secured by contacting the box office at (843) 577-DOGS (3647) or online at www.riverdogs.com.
