Stockton Thunder News Release

Stockton, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL's New York Islanders and AHL's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, have been loaned defenseman Austin Levi from the Carolina Hurricanes of the NHL. The defenseman was previously assigned to the Florida Everblades but was recalled and reassigned as part of the trade that sent Corey Trivino's rights to Florida.

Levi, 22, is in his second pro season having played 56 ECHL games, all with the Everblades, and 10 games with the Hurricanes AHL affiliate, the Charlotte Checkers. In the Columbus, Ohio native's 66 game pro career, he has 3 goals and 13 assists for 16 points.

"He's very mobile, big guy, he can really skate and he has a long reach," said Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Rich Kromm. "He's not necessarily a power play guy, but does have the ability to do it. He's a guy we're hoping can come in here, solidify our depth, and play a lot of minutes for us."

The former third round draft pick of the Hurricanes in 2010 was a teammate of Thunder forward Ryan Hayes in 2008-09 and 2009-10 while the pair played for the Plymouth Whalers in the OHL. Levi played 268 games with the Whalers, racking up 16 goals and 70 points while finishing +81 in his career.
