Bridgeport Islanders News Release
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (March 30, 2014) - The Bridgeport Sound Tigers fell the Hartford Wolf Pack Sunday afternoon by a final score of 3-0. The Sound Tigers managed 31 shots on goal in the contest, but David LeNeveu recorded the shutout for Hartford for the second time in less than 24 hours. Chris Bruton, who hadn't played since Jan. 19, was back in the lineup for the Sound Tigers.
The Sound Tigers played a strong first period and outshot the Wolf Pack, 10-5. It was still a 0-0 game with less than a minute to play when a fortuitous bounce gave Hartford the first goal of the contest. Darroll Powe broke into the zone on the right wing and threw the puck out in front. It deflected off a Sound Tigers defenseman in front and beat Kevin Poulin for the opening goal of the game.
Early in the second period, Marek Hrivik found the back of the net to give the Wolf Pack a 2-0 lead. Hrivik was waiting in the left circle when he received a pass from Danny Syvret and fired it past Poulin for the goal.
Later in the second period, T.J. Hensick unleashed an impressive individual effort to make it a 3-0 game. Hensick took the puck down the boards along the left wing and went behind the net. He came out the other side looking for the wraparound chance, and got it past both Poulin and a diving Jesse Root for the goal.
The Sound Tigers had at least 10 shots on goal in every period Sunday, including 11 in the third, but the chances they generated were not enough to beat LeNeveu as th Wolf Pack came away with the 3-0 victory.
The Sound Tigers will host the Springfield Falcons Tuesday at 11 a.m. for Spring Fun 102.
