Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Milwaukee, WI-The Admirals were put in the dog house by the Grand Rapids Griffins, as they fell to the Griffs 3-1 on Sunday afternoon at the BMO Harris Bradley Center in front of nearly 500 dogs at the team's annual Purina Dog Day Afternoon.
Despite the loss the Admirals have still won 10 of their past 13 games and hold on to the sixth spot in the Western Conference playoff chase, two points up on both Rockford and Charlotte.
Both goalies, Marek Mazanec and Petr Mrazek, stood strong resulting in a scoreless first period. Mazanec blocked all 14 shots from the Griffins and the Ads threw six shots on Mrazek.
The Griffins were the first to get on the board at 7:24 into the second period. A power play goal from Pulkkinen gave Grand Rapids the lead 1-0.
The Ads Filip Forsberg fired back halfway into the third period when Joe Piskula dished the puck off to him and he took a shot from inside the blue line to tie up the score 1-1 at 9:21. Piskula and Patrick Cehlin earned the assists on the play.
The Griffins were able to find the back of the net yet again with a goal from Ryan Sproul at 16:28, taking the lead once more 2-1, on their second power play goal of the night. With 37 seconds left in the third period, Pulkkinen scored an empty net goal, his second of the night, to seal the win for the Griffins.
Mazanec finished the night with 33 saves, despite suffering the loss.
The Ads are back at it this Friday, April 4th at the BMO Harris Bradley Center as they take on Iowa Wild at 7 pm.
