John Muse earned the win for Charlotte after replacing Mike Murphy in the net in the 2nd period.
The Barons started out strong, and opened up the scoring at 3:33 of the 1st as Taylor Fedun put the puck past Murphy from the point. Steve Pinizzotto and Will Acton were credited with the assists on the goal.
Just 70 seconds later, the Checkers would answer, as Victor Rask beat Richard Bachman up high to tie the game 1-1 at 4:23 of the 1st.
Ben Eager put the Barons up 2-1 at 2:57 of the 2nd, just after a lengthy 5-on-3 power play to start the period. The lone assist on the goal was credited to Acton.
The Checkers rebounded quickly once again, tying the game 2-2 just 40 seconds later as Chris Terry banked a shot off of Bachman and into the net at 3:37 of the 2nd.
Oklahoma City went to the power play just 15 seconds after the Checkers second equalizer of the game, as Rasmus Rissanen was called for interference at 3:52. Pinizzotto would capitalize on the man advantage at 5:24 of the period to put the Barons up once again, 3-2, assisted by Curtis Hamilton and Fedun.
Acton would give the Barons the game's first multi-goal lead at 8:06 of the 2nd period with assists to Austin Fyten and Andrew Miller.
Oklahoma City's two-goal lead was short-lived as Zach Boychuk cut the lead to 4-3, just 1:25 later at 9:31 of the period.
Less than a minute later, Jared Stall tied the game once again, beating Bachman glove-side at 10:24 of the 2nd to make it a 4-4 affair.
The game would head to overtime, still tied 4-4. The Barons played the last 1:09 of the extra frame on the man advantage after Boychuk was called for high-sticking Alex Lavoie, but the Barons could not score the game-winner.
