Lemurs Win in Extra Innings

Laredo, TX - The Laredo Lemurs win their first extra-inning game in team history in dramatic fashion as the Anthony Scelfo drives a fly ball to center to bring home the winning run from third for a 11-10 victory over the El Paso Diablos in 12 innings.

The Diablos jumped out to an 8-3 lead after four innings with Lemurs starting pitcher Mark Haynes struggling to find his command as he gave up eight runs on nine hits in three innings of work.

Haynes was replaced by Stephen Kahn who along with Chaz Roe, Jon Hunton, and Mike Benacka kept the Diablos off the board.

In the seventh the Lemurs struck for five runs. Ernie Banks Jr. started the seventh with a single followed up by a Brian Peterson single. Kevin Butler would turn in a hit driving in the two runners to bring the Lemurs with-in three. The rally would continue for the Lemurs with three more runs coming into score to tie the game at eight.

That score would last till the twelfth when the Diablos would add two runs to bring the score to 10-8.

In the bottom of the twelfth the Lemurs started off the inning with a single by Jimmy Mojica and Yunesky Sanchez reached on a fielders choice that erased Mojica from second. John Allen added a base hit to put runners at first and second. Stephen Pearson singled to drive in Sanchez to make it 10-9 Diablos. Then Ernie Banks Jr. singled to bring in John Allen from second to tie the game. Pearson moved up to third on the play and came home to score on the Anthony Scelfo sac fly to center to win the game 11-10.

The Lemurs will be home to take on the El Paso Diablos on Saturday and Sunday at Uni-Trade Stadium in Laredo, Texas. Game time is set for 7:30pm. You can get tickets online at www.laredolemurs.com or by phone at 956-7LEMURS.
