Big Inning Sends RailCats to 6-1 Defeat

WINNIPEG, Man. - The RailCats matched their season low with four hits and Winnipeg struck for six runs in the fifth inning as the RailCats fell 6-1 in the series opener on Friday night.

Both teams were held hitless for the first three innings. Winnipeg collected a hit in the fourth against RailCats starter Kyle Wilson, but did not score. Brian Kolb led off the top of the fifth with a single for the RailCats, and Kyle Haines was safe on a fielder's choice to put two on with nobody out. However, the RailCats were unable to bring a run home.

The Goldeyes broke the tie in the bottom of the fifth. They strung together four hits as well as four walks against Wilson to take a 6-0 lead.

The RailCats lone run came in the seventh. Mike Rohde hit a two-out double and Ryan Babineau followed with an RBI single, his first RBI of the season, to cut the lead to 6-1.

Wilson (0-2) allowed six runs on six hits with six walks in the loss. Goldeyes lefty starter Fabian Williamson (1-2) held the 'Cats to a run on four hits and struck out five in the win.

The series continues on Saturday night, as the RailCats send Morgan Coombs (1-0, 7.27 ERA) to the hill. First pitch is at 6 p.m.
