Alberts powers Sox past T-Bones 10-7

KANSAS CITY, KS - The Kansas City T-Bones had no answer for Amarillo Sox outfielder Tim Alberts on Friday night. Alberts went 5-5 with two homers and six RBI as the Sox defeated the T-Bones 10-7 at Community American Ballpark.

Amarillo starter Ryan Mitchell (1-0) got the win, allowing five runs off seven hits with five strikeouts in six innings. Kansas City starter Matt Mitchell (1-2) got the loss, allowing six runs off six hits in five innings of work. Sox closer Chase Johnson got his fourth save in the effort.

The Sox starting the scoring in the first as Adam Buschini doubled and scored on an Alberts single for a 1-0 lead. The T-Bones struck back quickly on a Devon Goodwin two-run homerun for a 2-1 lead.

Amarillo responded in the third as Jason White walked, Jake Opitz was hit by a pitch and Alberts powered a homer to centerfield for a 4-2 Sox lead.

In the fourth, Kansas City got one of the runs back as Kala Ka'aihue hit a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded to cut the deficit to one. Amarillo responded in the fifth as Alberts hit another homerun with Opitz on base. Kansas City scored as well in the fifth with a two-run homerun from Brandon Jones for a 6-5 Amarillo lead.

The Sox broke the game open in the sixth. Mitch Abeita and Harrison Kain both walked to lead off, while White doubled to score Abeita. Buschini doubled to score Kain and White in the next at bat. Following a flyout, an Alberts single and a Buscini stolen base, Alberto Espinosa grounded out to score Buschini and give Amarillo a five-run advantage.

Kansas City struck back in the seventh with two runs on four hits and an error, but reliever Wes Littleton came in to quell the rally and keep the lead at 10-7.

Reliever Phil Bartleski pitched a scoreless ninth, while Johnson pitched a perfect ninth to preserve the 10-7 victory.

With the win/loss, the Sox improve/fall to 6-7 while the T-Bones fall/improve to 7-6. Saturday, Amarillo take on Kansas City for the second game of the three-game set at 7:05pm. The game can be heard by visiting www.tbonesbaseball.com. Game time is tentative and is subject to blackout.
