Laredo Lemurs News Release
Grand Prairie, TX - The Laredo Lemurs (33-38) pick up four runs in the top of the eighth to go on and beat the Grand Prairie Airhogs (41-31) 6-5 in the first game of a crucial four game series on Friday night at QuikTrip Park.
With the Lemurs up 1-0 the Airhogs would come to the plate in the bottom of the sixth and turn the game around. With one out in the sixth Keanon Simon singled, followed by a Jonny Kaplan pop out to first to make two outs. Then Bryan Myrow singled to put runners at first and second. At that point Lemurs manager Pete Incaviglia made a move to take Matt Way out of the game. Bradly Blanks came in to face off against the cleanup hitter Andres Rodriguez. Rodriguez would turn on a 2-2 pitch and deposit it in the left field stands for a 3-1 Airhogs lead.
The Lemurs picked up one run in the seventh to climb back within a run. Then in the top of the eighth the Lemurs struck for four runs. With one out, Jimmy Mojica reached on an error by the shortstop to start the rally. That was followed up by a Palmer Karr Jr. single to put runners at first and second. Philip Incaviglia was put into run for Karr with a 1-1 count to the new batter John Allen. Allen singled to drive in a run tying the game at three, with Mojica coming across the plate. With Runners at second and third Javier Brito was walked intentionally to load the bases. Uriak Marquez came next, and doubled into the left center field gap to score two runs and give the lemurs a 5-3 lead. With two outs and a runner at third Kevin Bulter hit a slow roller to third, third baseman Andres Rodriguez bobbled the ball and Javier Brito came into score to make it 6-3 Lemurs.
Relief pitcher Edwin Walker would give up a two run homerun in the bottom of the eighth to make it 6-5 Lemurs, but Mike Benacka would close the door in the ninth to earn his fifth save of the year.
Bradly Blanks (3-1) earned the win throwing an inning and a third, giving up a run, on the homerun by Andres Rodriguez.
Adam Miller (0-1) took his first loss in six attempts going one inning, giving up four runs, on three hits.
The Lemurs will be on the road for an 11 game trip that will take them to Lincoln, Nebraska, Grand Prairie, Texas, and El Paso, Texas, for their longest trip of the year.
