West Valley City, Utah - Utah Grizzlies Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Kevin Colley today announced that the team has named Leigh Mendelson to the position of Assistant Coach.

Mendelson spent the 2009-2010 season as the Assistant Coach for the AHL's Norfolk Admirals and also spent 16 games as the team's Interim Head Coach posting a 7-7-0-2 record as the Admirals went down the stretch to the playoffs.

"I am pleased to have the opportunity to bring Leigh on board with the Grizzlies," said Colley. "He is a hockey man through and through and being able to volunteer his services this year will only help our player development and game preparation. We have been together before and know what he will bring to the table for us."

Before last season, Mendelson served as an Assistant Coach with the WHL's Spokane Chiefs in 2008-2009. He also has nearly a decade of experience as an Assistant Coach in the USHL and NAHL with: Waterloo, St. Louis, Sioux City, Green Bay and Omaha; who won the Clark Cup as USHL Champions in 2001 and 2008. Mendelson has also worked with USA hockey and served as an Assistant Coach for the ECHL's Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies in 2001-2002.

The Grizzlies return to Maverik Center for their home opening weekend Friday, October 22 and Saturday, October 23. Face-off both evenings is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
