
Salmon Kings Add Waugh to Blue Line

Victoria, BC - The Victoria Salmon Kings, proud affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks and Manitoba Moose, announced today that they have signed defenseman Geoff Waugh for the 2010-11 season.
The 6-4, 215 lb blue-liner spent his entire 2009-10 campaign with the Moose in the American Hockey League (AHL) where he recorded one assist and 41 penalty minutes throughout 29 games played.
The Winnipeg, MB native split his 2008-09 season between the AHL (Binghamton Senators and Portland Pirates) and ECHL (Elmira Jackals). The majority of the year was spent in the AHL where he combined for 40 games between Binghamton and Portland, recording three assists and 56 minutes in penalties. Waugh also dressed for two games in the ECHL with the Jackals notching 11 penalty minutes.
The 27-year-old Waugh spent the 2007-08 season entirely in the AHL with Binghamton, netting three goals and three assists for six points in 71 games, while accruing 139 minutes in penalties.
A third-round selection of the Dallas Stars (#78 overall) in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, Waugh began his professional hockey career in the 2006-07 season split between the ECHL's Johnstown Chiefs and AHL's Springfield Falcons. The majority of the year was spent in the ECHL, where he appeared in 56 games with the Chiefs, scoring 13 points (1g-12a) with 91 penalty minutes. Waugh's time in the AHL that year spanned 10 games in Springfield, where he notched 25 minutes in penalties.
For his four-year professional career, the defenseman has totaled 23 points (4g-19a) and 359 penalty minutes over 207 games. He has also appeared in four professional playoff games, scoring one goal and serving penalty minutes.
Prior to turning professional, Waugh completed a four-year junior career at school with the Northern Michigan University Wildcats. In 158 total games at NMU he amassed four goals and 34 assists for 38 points with 276 minutes in penalties. During his time at school, Waugh was named the recipient of both the Steve Weeks Unsung Hero Award and Dennis Sibilsky Memorial Senior Award.
