Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release

GREENVILLE, S.C. - The Greenville Road Warriors begin their inaugural ECHL season today against the Florida Everblades. With a special pregame ceremony scheduled, the opening face off is set for 7:05 p.m. at the BI-LO Center.

On top of the pregame ceremony there will be a free concert on the BI-LO Center Plaza beginning at 5:00 p.m., United States Senator Jim Demint will drop the ceremonial first puck, and the Road Warriors will offer select fountain drinks and draft beers for their first Thirsty Thursday promotion of the season.

The Road Warriors take on a Florida club that defeated them twice during the preseason. Greenville traveled to Florida for a pair of games on October 8 and 9, just two days after training camp opened. The Everblades came away with wins by the count of 6-5 and 4-2. While the Road Warriors were idle, Florida opened its regular season slate last weekend with a pair of games in Gwinnett against the Gladiators. A 3-2 win via a shootout in the opener and a 5-3 loss the next night left the Everblades with a split. Greenville had been scheduled to open its season last weekend in Charleston against the Stingrays, but a conflict at the North Charleston Coliseum forced the game to be postponed until November 16.

Greenville head coach Dean Stork makes his head coaching debut this evening. After four seasons as an assistant with the Cincinnati Cyclones Stork was named the Road Warriors' coach this past June. He helped the Cyclones capture two of the last three Kelly Cup titles (2008 and 2010). Besides Stork, 10 Road Warriors rookies will be making their pro debuts this season. Greenville's rookies are: Nic Riopel (G), Cullen Eddy (D), Trevor Glass (D), Blake Parlett (D), Sam Klassen (D), Dan Ringwald (D), Marc-Olivier Vallerand (F), Chris Chappell (F), Anton Kharin (F), and Shane Harper. Florida, meanwhile features eight rookies on its roster.
