Lexington Legends News Release
On funeral night, the Lexington Legends defeated Lakewood 10-9 in a game that took nearly a lifetime to play. The 13-inning marathon ended when Clint McGill drew a bases loaded walk forcing in Bryan Triplett with the winning run. The victory extended the Legends win streak to three games and moved Lexington to within three games of first place.
The BlueClaws rocked Garrett Murdy for eight runs in the first two innings. Doug Gredvig and Ryan Frith each belted three run homers.
Drew Sutton also belted a three run homer in the third inning to start the comeback. Frankie Caraballo's RBI single capped off a four run third. Mitch Einertson forced in a run in the fourth with a ground out. Beau Torbert doubled in two runs in a three run, fifth inning that tied the game at eight.
Lexington and Lakewood traded solo homers in the seventh inning. Mike Dzurilla belted one for the BlueClaws and Caraballo answered for Lexington.
The game remained tied until the bottom half of the 13th inning. Bryan Triplett walked leading off, stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. The Claws intentionally walked pinch hitter Hunter Pence. With one out, Mitch Einertson loaded the bases with a free pass setting up the game ending bases on balls.
Murdy gave up eight runs in four innings of work. Lexington's bullpen worked nine innings allowing just one run on four hits. Paul Estrada (3-6) earned the win with a scoreless 13th inning. Kyle Allen (0-4) suffered the loss for Lakewood.
Ronnie Martinez will square off against Matt Sweeney on Saturday night at Applebee's Park. All University of Kentucky students, faculty and staff receive a one-dollar discount on tickets on UK sports night.
First pitch is set for 7:05pm. The Progressive Direct pre-game show will begin at 6:50 on the Legends radio network.
