Greenville Drive News Release
The Boston Red Sox announced on Friday that INF/OF Bret LeVier has been promoted to Double-A Portland.
The 22-year old, who has seen time at all three outfield positions, shortstop, and third base, holds the dubious distinction of being the first ever Greenville Bomber to hit a home run while playing at a middle infield position.
A 2004 non-drafted free agent out of CS-Sacramento, LeVier was batting .262 with 14 doubles and two home runs for the Bombers in 187 at-bats. He also hit at a .317 clip with runners in scoring position..
LeVier joins Portland in Manchester, New Hampshire as the Sea Dogs embark upon a four-game series against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Toronto Blue Jays) on Friday night.
Greenville will continue on their road trip tonight to play the first game of a four-game series against Kannapolis. The Bombers will return to Greenville on July 13 to embark upon an eight-game homestand. Highlighting this homestand will be Bombers batting helmet giveaway night (7/15) sponsored by Carolina First.
Also during the homestand is Southeastern Product's Shoeless Joe Jackson Night (7/16). Shoeless Joe Jackson Night is sure to be one of the most prolific Minor League promotional nights of the season, as fans will enjoy free cake, pony rids, music, games, and an autograph signing session with local author Joe Thompson, author of the acclaimed "Growing Up With Shoeless Joe." Exhibits by Shoeless Joe Virtual Hall of Fame and the Greenville City Hall's personal Shoeless Joe collections will be present. Also, the first 1,000 fans will receive a free Shoeless Joe Bobblehead to celebrate the Greenville native's birthday.
