Lake County Captains News Release
(Eastlake, Ohio)---Trevor Crowe had three hits and drove in the eventual game winning run Friday, as Lake County pounded out 15 hits in a 7-4 victory over the Delmarva Shorebirds Friday night before the season's largest crowd of 9,394 at Classic Park.
The Captains (8-7, 48-37) began the scoring in the bottom of the first when first baseman Fernando Pacheco drove in Matt Whitney from second after Whitney singled and scampered to second on a Tim Montgomery base hit off of Delmarva starter Dennis Robinson (3-8).
The Shorebirds( 11-4,41-44), whose bats were just as impressive, took a 2-1 lead in the top of the second when first baseman C.J. Smith blasted a two run home run to right off of Captains starter Cody Bunkelman. Lake County recaptured the lead 3-2 in the bottom of that same inning. Chris Gimenez doubled in Marshall Szabo, and Gimenez later scored on Brian Finegan's fielder's choice.
The Captains closed out their scoring in the bottom of the sixth inning. With two outs and nobody on, lead-off hitter Trevor Crowe laced a single to center field. A Brian Finegan double drove in Crowe. Delmarva's Arturo Rivas dropped a Whitney fly ball allowing Finegan to cross the plate for the Captains final run of the game.
Delmarva scored their final run in the top of the seventh inning when Shorebird third baseman Patrick Scalabrini scored on a T.J. Burton balk.
Bunkelman (2-3) picked up second victory of the year throwing five innings, allowing three runs on six hits, walking two and striking out two. Kieran Mattison pitched the ninth inning and retired the last two batters after loading the bases with one out and picked up his 16th save of the season.
The Captains and the Shorebirds will play game three of the series Saturday night at 7:05 (WELW AM 1330).
