Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
Kannapolis, NC - Six runs on twelve hits were enough for the Intimidators to out hit the best hitting club in the South Atlantic League and beat Greenville 6-4 for their sixth win in a row. The victory moves Kannapolis to 9-5 in the second half and 45-38 overall. The I's win combined with a Charleston loss puts K-town in first place all alone in the South. The I's have not led the division since earning a playoff spot as the Piedmont Boll Weevils in 2000.
Josh Hansen's RBI single drove in Sean Smith to give Kannapolis a 1-0 lead in the first. Greenville responded with a three run Chris Turner home run in the top of the second taking a 3-1 edge. The lead did not last long. Jose De Los Santos and Bernie Gonzalez had RBI singles in back to back innings tying the game at three. A Greenville error allowed Boomer Berry to score the go ahead run in the fourth and the I's added a pair of insurance runs in the sixth on a Clint King single.
Garry Bakker (2-1) took the victory with five innings of six hit, three run baseball. Bakker walked three and struck out four. Beau Vaughan lost for the first time this season (0-1) giving up four runs on seven hits. John Hurd yielded just one run in three innings of relief for his third save of the year.
The I's and Bombers will play again Saturday night at 7:05. It's Matchbox night at the stadium with Matchbox cars to be raffled off during the game. Ray Liotta (6-3 2.54) starts against Gary Galvez (6-1 2.73).
