(LAKEWOOD, N. J. ) Nick Tropeano earned his fifth victory of the season, and Brandon Meredith hit his first home run of the year as the Lexington Legends defeated the Lakewood BlueClaws 4-1 Thursday night.

Meredith's solo shot in the second inning put the Legends in front 1-0.

In the top of the fourth, Zach Johnson drew a leadoff walk. Matt Duffy lined a single to center field, and when center fielder Aaron Altherr bobbled the ball, Johnson moved to third and Duffy to second. Drew Muren's sacrifice fly brought Johnson home with Lexington's second run.

The Legends made it 3-0 in the top of the fifth. Justin Gominsky reached second when third baseman Harold Martinez threw past first after fielding Gominsky's grounder. Chan Jong Moon sacrificed Gominsky to third, from where he scored on a sacrifice fly by Delino DeShields Jr.

Lakewood scored its only run in the sixth inning. Leadoff hitter Gauntlett Eldemire walked and scored on a triple by Alejandro Villalobos, but Tropeano came back to strike out the side, stranding Villalobos at third.

The Legends scored their final run in the seventh inning. Roberto Pena led off with a double and scored on DeShields' one-out single.

Tropeano (5-3) struck out six and walked three in six innings. Murilo Gouvea relieved him with two on and no outs in the seventh, but worked out of the jam as Carlos Perdomo hit into a 4-6-3 double play and Eldemire struck out.

Carlos Quevedo pitched a scoreless ninth to earn his second save.

Lakewood starter Lino Martinez (3-4) was the losing pitcher.

The Legends will open a three-game series in Greensboro Friday night against the Grasshoppers, who lead the South Atlantic League Northern Division.
