Asheville Tourists News Release

The Asheville Tourists did what they needed to do Thursday evening in Savannah by winning at least one at Historic Grayson Stadium. The Tourists bounced back from their loss Wednesday night with a 2-0 victory in the first seven inning contest. The series rubber match went to the Sand Gnats 5-4 but the Tourists still hold a 4.5 game lead over second place Charleston.

Tyler Anderson (4-0, 3.48) worked six scoreless innings and Jeri Hernandez pitched a perfect seventh as the two combined to throw Asheville's third shutout of the season. Savannah managed to put only one runner in scoring position as the Tourists took control early.

Brian Humphries was the lone offense of the game. Humphries blasted an 0-2 pitch over the right field wall in the second inning for a two-run Home Run. The round-tripper was Humphries' first of the year.

In game two, the Tourists jumped out to a 4-0 lead; plating all four runs with two outs. Taylor Featherston doubled home Harold Riggins in the second. In the third, Humphries doubled in Jared Simon and two batters later, Riggins delivered a two-run single.

Savannah answered with the next five runs of the game, the final two coming on a two-run Home Run from Brandon Brown. The Tourists were unable to mount a rally late and fell by a final score of 5-4.

The first place Tourists are in great shape as they head home for a three-game series against the West Virginia Power beginning on Friday.
