CHARLESTON, SC - Five strong innings by starter Luke Jackson helped lead the Hickory Crawdads to a 7-3 win over the Charleston RiverDogs in South Atlantic League action in front of a crowd of 4,676 on Thursday night at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.

The RiverDogs fell short in their attempt to sweep the series and they now stand at 36-23. Hickory improved to 32-27 in salvaging the final game.

The Crawdads took the early lead with two in the first after two singles and a walk off starter Bryan Mitchell (4-3) loaded the bases. Jeremy Williams (3-5, RBI, run) then legged out an RBI infield single and a throwing error on the play scored a second run. Hickory added to their lead in the fourth, starting with a solo homer by Kellin Deglan (2-4, HR). After a hit batter, Alejandro Selen lined an RBI double to center and they added an unearned tally later in the inning for a 5-0 lead.

Charleston notched their first run in the fifth when Mason Williams singled, stole second and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by Tyler Austin, but Hickory regained their five run lead in the sixth thanks to an RBI single by Drew Robinson. They added insurance in the seventh when Zachary Cone doubled and scored on a wild pitch.

The RiverDogs lineup was shut down for most of the night by Jackson (5-4). The right-hander allowed only one run on five hits with four strikeouts in five innings of work. Dante Bichette, Jr. hit an RBI double in the seventh and Gary Sanchez (2-4, RBI) knocked in a run in the ninth, but it was not enough. Kevin Matthews got the last nine outs for the Crawdads to pick up his first save.
