Lexington Legends News Release

The Lexington Legends broke a 2-2 tie with four runs in the fourth inning and went on to defeat the Greensboro Grasshoppers 7-3 at Applebee's Park Sunday afternoon.

Walks to Jose Altuve and Andy Simunic, followed by two infield outs, produced a run for Lexington in the bottom of the first inning. Altuve hit his fourth home run of the year in the third inning to give Lexington a 2-0 lead.

Greensboro tied the score in the top of the fourth on a two-run homer by Terrence Dayleg, but the Legends took the lead for good in the bottom half of the inning.

With one out, Grant Hogue singled and Miguel Arrendell was hit by a pitch. After Altuve lined out, a double steal moved the runners to second and third. Simunic walked to load the bases, and Jake Goebbert followed with a two-run single. Simunic came home on a single by J.D. Martinez to make the score 5-2, and Kody Hinze singled Goebbert home with the Legends' sixth run. Hinze leads the South Atlantic League with 52 RBI.

The Legends added another run in the eighth inning when Hogue reached on a throwing error by pitcher Natividad Dilone and scored on Arrendell's double.

Greensboro scored once in the ninth against Legends' closer Kirk Clark and had two men on with one out, but Clark struck out Rand Smith and retired Chase Austin on a popup to end the game.

Jose Cisnero (3-2) pitched fhe first five innings to get the win. Greensboro starter Edgar Olmos (2-2) was the losing pitcher.

The two teams conclude their four-game series Monday night at Applebee's Park. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
